Mohawk Archery Club Laws

Constitution of the Mohawk Archery Club

Reads as follows:

Article I - Name

The name of this club shall be the Mohawk Archery Club. It shall be a non-profit organization of Mason City, Iowa.

Article II – Purpose

1)    The purpose of this club shall be:

a)   to have friendly companionship of all archers.

b)   to have no discrimination between field archery, target archery, bowhunting archery, or any type of archery.

c)   to provide and maintain archery facilities for and by club members

Article Ill - Membership

1)     There will be the following types of membership:

a)   Youth Membership

b)   Adult Membership

c)   Family Membership

d)   Senior Membership

2)     All members to pledge themselves to constantly enrich time sport of archery:

a)   by showing good sportsmanship.

b)   by attending monthly meetings regularly.

c)   by doing work when necessary.

d)   by helping others to improve their marksmanship.

e)   by helping new members to get started.

Article IV – Officers

1)     Officers of this club will be president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and bowhunting chairperson

Article V - Election of Office

1)     A new election of officers shall occur at the October meeting each year.

2)     All elections shall be made by secret ballot.

3)     The president is allowed to vote at elections.

Article VI - Fiscal Year

1)     The fiscal year shall start October 1st and end September 30th.

Article VII — Dues and Fees

1)     Dues and fees will be determined at the business meeting in September.

Article VIII — Adoption and Amendments of the Constitution

1)     This constitution will become effective when approved by a 2/3 vote of members present at general meeting. The secretary shall notify each member with copy of constitution and proxy ballot at least 10 days prior to such a meeting. Signed proxy votes will be accepted in writing no later than the day of the meeting.

Article IX - By-Laws

1)     The club membership shall adopt and maintain a set of by-laws by which the club is governed.


By-Laws of the Mohawk Archery Club

of Mason City, Iowa

1)     Amendments to the by-laws

a)    Club by-laws shall be read after the election at the September general meeting for an annual review. Any proposed changes or additions to the by-laws should be presented at the September meeting.

b)   Changes of the by-laws may also be proposed and considered during the general meetings as for the purpose of keeping the clubs by-laws current and up to date.

c)   Said proposed changes shall be mailed to each club member 10 days before the next scheduled general meeting on which these proposed changes will be voted on. A copy of the current constitution, current by­laws, and date of this scheduled meeting should be included with the proposed changes.

d)   A vote of 2/3’s majority of the members present at the following month’s general meeting is required to pass said changes.

2)    Memberships to the Mohawk Archery Club

a)    Anyone of good character sincerely interested in archery and capable of abiding by all rules and regulations established in the constitution is eligible for membership in the Mohawk Archery Club.

b)    Each new applicant must fully complete a membership application and submit it to one of the club officers or mail it to the address on the back of the application.

c)    The treasurer will contact the applicant upon receiving the application to receive the dues, go through the new member packet, and to issue a key to the new member. Included in said packet will be the club’s Constitution, by-laws, rules, membership card, and key to the indoor archery range.

3)    Good Conduct

a)    Any members conducting themselves in such a manner as to reflect unfavorably upon the Mohawk Archery Club, regardless of the type of archer, are subject to disciplinary action.

b)   Members may be expelled by a secret vote of two-thirds majority of the Board of Directors or two-thirds majority secret vote of the entire club membership if any member objects to the Board of Directors recommendation of expulsion.

c)   If a secret vote of the club membership is required the board will out line situation and behavior and mail to each club member on an official expulsion ballot. To be counted, all proxy votes must be returned to the Mohawk Archery Club within 10 days.

d)   Reinstatement of membership may be granted to expelled members after a period of suspension deemed appropriate by the Board of Directors.

4)    Voting

a)   In order to have a vote in any club function the club member shall have attained the age of 16, or be approved to vote by the Board of Directors and Officers of the club.

b)   Family memberships shall have the power of, up to two votes.

c)   Individual memberships count as one vote.

d)   New members automatically wave their right to appropriate notice during the first 15 days of their membership so as not to hinder or interfere with current issues. However, they may still vote on the issues.

5)   Dues

a) The annual club membership will be from October 1st through September 30th.

b) Any new member that has not been a member within the last 24 months and that joined in between these dates will pay the full membership rate for time first year. The second year’s membership shall be pro rated based on the amount of membership time used the first year based on the joining date.

c) Club membership dues will be due on or before the October general meeting, for the following year. To be eligible to vote, dues must be paid prior to the election.  Each member will be notified of the amount payable by separate mailings following the setting of the dues and fees.

6)   Meetings

a)   The general club meetings will be held the 2nd week of September, October and as needed, with the day being set by the current President. When a conflict with a recognized national holiday occurs, the meeting will be scheduled at the President’s discretion.

b)    Dates and times for special meetings called by the president will be made available by mail or phone at least 5 days in advance of the meeting.

c)    Meetings will start promptly at 7:00 p.m. in the indoor facility or at the outdoor range.

7)    Officers

a)    Officers of the club shall be President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Bowhunting Chairperson.  No person shall hold more than one office at a time.

b)    There shall also be 2 Directors.

c)    Officers and Director shall have attained the age of 18, been nominated, and been voted in to office at the October general meeting.

d)    Nominations for club officers shall be made from the floor at the September general meeting and election of these officers will be determined by the use of official election ballots mailed out to all eligible voting members by October 1st. These ballots must be returned either by mail or in person to the club secretary by the October general meeting.

e)    The candidate receiving the highest number of votes shall be elected to office and in case of a tie, ballots shall be taken from those eligible voting members actually present at the October general meeting to make a final determination.

8)    Duties of Officers

a)    President

i)              The president shall preside at all meetings.

ii)             He shall appoint all committees, publicity chairperson, ISAA representative, and two CVL representatives.

iii)            Shall in general perform the duties incident to this office.

b)    Vice President

i)              The vice president shall perform the duties of the president if he is unable to act.

ii)             Shall purchase trophies and targets.

iii)            Shall in general perform the duties incident to this office

c)   Secretary

i)              The secretary shall keep all records of the Mohawk Archery Club.

ii)             Serve all notices of meetings.

iii)            Conduct all correspondence.

iv)            Present a written report of the minutes of the monthly meetings.

v)             Shall in general perform the duties incident to this office.

d)     Treasurer

i)              The treasurer shall receive all the money of the Mohawk Archery Club.

ii)             Shall keep accurate records of the receipts and disbursements.

iii)            Present the monthly financial reports including the following:

(1)   Balance Sheet Report.

(2)   Previous Months Income and Expense Report.

(3)  Budget Comparison Report.

iv)       Shall in general perform the duties incident to this office

C)   Bowhunter Chairperson

i)        The bowhunter chairperson shall in general oversee all bowhunting programs.

ii)       Shall setup and run the Big Deer Contest.

iii)      Shall setup and run the Big Turkey Contest.

iv)       Shall oversee the bowhunter ranges.

v)    Shall in general perform the duties incident to this office

9)    Duties of Board of Directors

a)     The board of directors shall guide and manage the activities, problems, marketing and advertising, policies, and property of the Mohawk Archery Club. The board of directors’ recommendations and decisions shall be reviewed at each of the following general club meeting.

b)     At any meeting of the board, five members shall constitute quorum.

c)     Any vacancy of any office shall be filled by appointment by the board of directors.

d)     The board of directors shall meet at least once a quarter at a time and place fixed by the board.

e)     President of the club shall have the power to vote only in a tie and will act as chairperson of the board.

10) Workdays

a)     When the president has appointed a workday there shall not be any shooting at the range during the workday.

b)     Archers caught shooting at the range during the workday will be asked to help or leave the range. This includes all members.

c)     A sign will be posted at the entrance for all members to see that the day has been assigned a workday.

d)   Only after the president is satisfied that the work has been completed will shooting be permitted.

11) Club Policies

a)    General club policies and rules will be set at any of the general meetings.

b)    The amount of money the president and the treasurer can spend without prior approval shall be determined annually at the September meeting.
